Aboriginal Training & Liaison (ATAL) Program

Ngurranga Tours
The Aboriginal Training and Liaison (ATAL) Program, mentored by Clinton Walker from Ngurrangga Tours, is an 18-week work readiness initiative designed to equip participants with the skills needed for diverse employment opportunities. The program begins with six weeks of foundational training outside the gate, followed by 12 weeks inside the gate for those interested in roles within Rio Tinto. After completing the program, participants transition into ATAL-nominated roles and receive ongoing support as they begin their employment. A collaboration between Rio Tinto and Traditional Owners, ATAL connects participants to job opportunities both within and outside Rio Tinto. The program is co-designed with Traditional Owner groups in the Pilbara, ensuring it meets community needs. The ATAL team coordinates candidates and links them to various employment pathways, creating a seamless transition into skilled roles and fostering a strong pipeline of talent for the region.
